In pace with the ever-growing need for high-speed, affordable satellite-based Internet connections, the infrastructure of satellite operators has also continued to grow. The most recent development is the change from the formerly used KU band to the modern, much faster KA band. Upload speeds of up to 2 Mbit/sec and download rates of up to 20 Mbit/s can be reached.

The footprint no longer stretches globally across all of Europe, but is now divided up into several, large beams instead. The ASTRA2E satellite that serves Germany is at a position of 28.2° East and covers much of Central Europe with one and the same technology.
